GeoCache Dash Rules

How the Race Works

SETTING:
In the Lincoln-Woodstock Region of the White Mountains of New Hampshire, there are currently approximately 50 geocaches listed on Geocaching.com. Prior to the race start on Saturday, May 29, the Northeast Geocache Dash committee will plant approximately 60 specific trinkets called DASH SWAG in those existing caches. Over Memorial Day Weekend, teams from around the world will test their skill, speed, and luck as they race to and hunt for their share of the DASH SWAG in the 2nd annual Northeast Geocache Dash.

TEAMS:
Teams consisting of a maximum of 4 "adults" (12 and older) may pre-register or register on site for FREE to compete in the Northeast Geocache Dash. Teams may have an unlimted number of players under the age of 12 (allowing for larger families to remain a single team). There are two categories to race in, the Tadpole level and Expert level. The Tadpole level is recommended for families with young children or those who are new to the sport and improving their geocaching skills. The Expert level is recommended for geocachers with previous experience in the sport and for teams that are comfortable moving more quickly to find caches. Racers in the two race categories will be hunting for different SWAG in each cache. For example: Tadpoles may be hunting for the RED item and Experts may be hunting for the GREEN item. Teams will not know what they are looking for until the morning of the race.

OBJECTIVE:
The object of the race is to collect as many of the specific SWAG items as possible between the start of the race at 9am on Saturday and the finish at 3pm on Sunday. Teams may log their finds (collection of SWAG) at any time during race hours at Geocache Headquarters (HQ). Each item of SWAG logged is counted as 1 point for that team. Teams with the most points logged-in at HQ by Sunday at 3pm will be declared the winners. In the event of a tie for the number of points, teams that log their SWAG first, will win the tie-break. For example: Team A and Team B each find 8 SWAG items. Team A logs their finds at HQ at 2pm on Saturday, while Team B logs their finds at 10am on Sunday. Team A would win this example tie.

CAPTAINS MEETING:
At approximately 8:30am on Saturday, May 29, 2010, there will be a captains meeting at Geocache Bash Headquarters to review race rules and reveal the DASH SWAG (cache-item) teams will be hunting for in the race. At that time, each team captain will have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify race rules. This meeting is mandatory (and most beneficial) for each team captain to attend.

PRINCIPLES:
The traditional model of Geocaching will be followed, leaving behind a small trinket in each cache and taking one that has been left by the previous cacher, hopefully one of the pre-determined SWAG items worth points in the race. Don't forget to sign the log-book and take some pictures. You'll want that to log your finds later on Geocaching.com. Of course, Cache-in/Trash-out principles will be followed by all contestents. This event is meant to be a fun race and is not meant to be super-competetive.

PRE REGISTRATION:
It is highly recommended that you Pre-Register for the dash. The NE Geo-Dash committee will be sending an email to registered teams each week prior to the event. The emails will contain pertinent information about the event and may contain some value-added clues about the race. Its in your best interest to sign-up now, to make sure you don't miss anything that helps your team.

WINNERS:
The winning team, as well as second and third place teams, will be announced for each level on Sunday, at 4pm at the Northeast Geocache Bash Headquarters. Prizes and awards will be given to each of our winning teams. In the event you are unable to attend the awards ceremony, please let one of the NE-Geo Dash volunteers at HQ know, and we will make provisions to get you your spoils, should you be one of the winners.
