Barney Makeoff murdered Coco Geaherdeli to embezzle her fortune.
Mark Your calendar for the murder mystery weekend, 2011: Saturday and Sunday, April 9th & 10th, 2011.
The Solution:
The killer of Coco Geaherdeli was her financial advisor, Barney Makeoff.
Barney killed Coco with fugu poison delivered in the form of puffer fish shaped chocolate fudge. His motive was that he had been embezzling from Coco. He had hoped to marry her and continue to rob her from the safer relationship of husband but she was planning to spend money very soon on an expensive home and had already written checks to back business ventures with Anita de Chocalot and Billy Vonka. Soon she would have realized what he was doing and called the police. If she were dead before she discovered his theft, he could easily cover his tracks since he was the financial manager of her foundation.
Here are the clues which should have led you to the solution...
Clue #1 = Barney was taking Coco to dinner often.
Clue #3 = Almost every evening Barney had Coco over for some exotic chocolate he had found for her.
Clue #4 = Barney tried to stop Coco from buying house. (She would have found she had little money.)
Clue #12 = Barney tries to get Coco’s check from Anita so she won’t cash it.
Clue #8 = Barney received the special Fooygooy Fudge from Florida by priority mail fearing Coco may soon discover the truth if he can’t intercept the checks or get her to marry him..
Clue #13 = Anita found she could not cash Coco’s check because of insufficient funds.
Clue #7 = Barney tries to get Coco’s check away from Billy Vonka (supposedly to invest for him).
...and Coroner’s report which showed;
Fooygooy fudge found at scene,
she had consumed red wine and chocolate that evening
evidence of slurred speech noticed by waitress passing by gazebo
and evidence of convulsions indicated by scratches and bruises.*
* The most common symptoms of fugu poisoning are tingling and burning of the mouth and tongue, numbness, drowsiness, and incoherent speech. These symptoms usually occur 30 minutes to two hours after ingestion of the fish, depending on the amount of toxin ingested. In severe cases muscle twitching, respiratory paralysis, and death can occur after eating puffer fish.
